Late Thursday night, the president announced what his administration is calling a historic breakthrough: Hamas and other armed factions in Gaza have agreed to a framework for their complete disarmament, a goal that eluded every prior administration and every so-called foreign policy expert in Washington.

Trump broke the news himself, the way he always does — straight to the American people, no filters, no spin from the legacy press. In a Truth Social post, he called the agreement a step toward “lasting PEACE and SECURITY,” and made clear that the terror threat that produced the October 7 attacks “will NOT be allowed to rebuild.” He also promised that Gaza will ultimately be handed to a new Palestinian government that actually serves its people — not the corrupt, dysfunctional structures of the past.

This is the same president who was told, again and again, that a deal like this was impossible. Senior officials working under the Board of Peace admitted it took months of difficult, painstaking negotiation to get here. But that’s exactly the kind of patient, disciplined dealmaking that Trump’s critics never give him credit for.

A Real Alternative to the UN

Since launching the Board of Peace earlier this year at Davos, Trump has built something the tired, bureaucratic United Nations never could: an action-oriented body with actual buy-in from the region. Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye have all worked as mediators to help finalize this next phase of the ceasefire, and Board of Peace high representative Nickolay Mladenov didn’t sugarcoat how hard the process was, admitting there were points where he wasn’t sure a deal would even be reached.

That’s the difference between Trump’s approach and the empty summits of the past: real results instead of press releases. Under the new roadmap, a precise disarmament timeline is expected to be finalized within roughly two weeks, with room for extensions if an international verification body and all parties sign off.
