The longtime Kentucky senator says he is recovering after a fall and rehabilitation, while thanking supporters for their patience and well wishes.

After several weeks away from public view, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell has shared new details about his health and recovery.

In a public statement released alongside a recent photograph with his wife, Elaine Chao, the 84-year-old senator confirmed that he had been hospitalized following a fall at home and is now continuing his recovery through rehabilitation.

The update comes after weeks of public questions about his absence from Capitol Hill.

McConnell Describes His Recovery

According to McConnell’s statement, he suffered a fall in mid-June that resulted in a brief loss of consciousness. During his hospitalization, he was also treated for a mild case of pneumonia.

Reflecting on the experience, McConnell acknowledged that discussing personal health has not always come easily.

“You all know how folks of my generation often hesitate to share the vulnerability that comes with growing older. Even in the public eye, I feel that same instinct.”

He thanked his family, medical team, colleagues, and supporters for their encouragement throughout his recovery.

McConnell’s office said physicians have ruled out several serious medical conditions, including stroke, heart attack, concussion, and brain hemorrhage.
