India’s Education Minister Resigns After Exam Leak Crisis Sparks Nationwide Youth Protests

India’s political landscape shifted dramatically after Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced his resignation following weeks of nationwide protests triggered by a major examination paper leak scandal. The resignation marks one of the most significant concessions made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in response to sustained public pressure and reflects the growing frustration of millions of young Indians over education, unemployment, and government accountability.

Pradhan confirmed that he had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing the events of the previous several days as deeply saddening. In a statement posted on social media platform X, he said India’s youth represent the country’s greatest strength and insisted he did not want them to become trapped in “confusion and despair.”

He also warned that the protests should not be exploited by what he described as “anti-national forces,” while emphasizing that he accepted moral responsibility for the crisis that unfolded under his ministry.

His resignation follows weeks of demonstrations led by the rapidly emerging Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a grassroots youth movement that first gained attention online before evolving into one of the country’s largest protest campaigns in recent years.

A Protest That Grew Beyond Exam Leaks

The immediate trigger for the protests was the leak of question papers from India’s highly competitive national medical entrance examination, commonly known as NEET. The scandal disrupted the futures of countless students who had spent years preparing for one of the country’s most important professional examinations.

What initially began as anger over the integrity of the examination process soon evolved into a broader movement questioning government transparency, youth unemployment, and the treatment of peaceful demonstrators.

Thousands of students and supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, with demonstrations eventually spreading to multiple cities across India.
